Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 8th that it successfully held the 20th anniversary ceremony of the opening of the Uijeongbu Disabled Comprehensive Welfare Center at the Uijeongbu Arts Center.

This event was an opportunity to look back on the footsteps and achievements of the welfare center over the past 20 years and to prepare for a leap forward into a new future.
The ceremony was held under the slogan "A Journey That Shines Together, A New Leap," presenting a vision for a better tomorrow in Uijeongbu City created by both people with disabilities and those without disabilities together.
The event began with an opening orchestra performance by disabled artists, followed by the presentation of the Uijeongbu Mayor’s Commendation and congratulatory speeches from key guests.
Attending the event were Mayor Kim Dong-geun and Mrs. Kim Kyung-hee, Uijeongbu City Council Chairman Kim Yeon-gyun, Hwang Jae-yeon, president of the Korea Disabled Persons Association, the operating corporation of the Uijeongbu Disabled Comprehensive Welfare Center, and other key officials who graced the occasion. Approximately 1,000 participants, including welfare center users and local community sponsors, contributed to the event’s success.
During the event, the Uijeongbu Mayor’s Commendation was awarded to staff, sponsors, and volunteer organizations who have long dedicated themselves to disability welfare at the center, providing a moment to honor their dedication and hard work.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun expressed his gratitude, saying, “I sincerely congratulate the 20th anniversary of the Disabled Comprehensive Welfare Center, which has grown together as a reliable partner of the local community.”
The event also featured an exhibition of works created by disabled artists, attracting much attention. It was an opportunity to glimpse the passion and creativity of disabled artists through various artworks and conveyed interest and support for them.
Since its opening in 2004, the Uijeongbu Disabled Comprehensive Welfare Center has continuously worked to improve disability welfare in the Uijeongbu area and has operated various programs where people with and without disabilities can communicate and grow together. Through this 20th anniversary event, the welfare center declared its vision to continue providing more progressive welfare services in partnership with the local community.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “This 20th anniversary ceremony is very meaningful as a place of harmony where both people with and without disabilities participate and share joy,” adding, “We will continue to do our best so that people with disabilities can live happier lives as members of the local community.”
Through this event, the city raised awareness of disability welfare and once again emphasized the importance of a society where people with and without disabilities coexist and prosper together. Taking this as an opportunity, the Uijeongbu Disabled Comprehensive Welfare Center will continue to strive for social integration and lead the provision of customized welfare services that meet the diverse needs of the local community.
