Mayor Baek Young-hyun: "I will strive to develop Pocheon into a humanities city where history lives and breathes"
Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Young-hyun) announced on the 8th that it held the 'Baeksa Yi Hang-bok Historic Site Opening Ceremony' on the 7th in Geumhyeon-ri, Gasan-myeon.

This historic site opening was organized to honor the life and achievements of Baeksa Yi Hang-bok, a historical figure of Pocheon. The opening ceremony was graced by guests including Im Jong-hoon, Chairman of the Pocheon City Council, Lee Hyun-woo, President of the Gyeongju Yi Clan Central Hwasu Association, and Lee Jong-chan, Chairman of the Liberation Association.
The Baeksa Yi Hang-bok Historic Site was established over a total area of 5,610㎡ in Geumhyeon-ri, Gasan-myeon, Pocheon City. Its main facilities include a memorial hall exhibiting artifacts of Baeksa Yi Hang-bok, an education center, and administrative offices.
The historic site project began in 2019 with the donation of the business site by the Gyeongju Yi Clan Baeksa Gong branch family. It was later confirmed as a Gyeonggi-do cultural heritage tourism resource development project, securing special adjustment grants from Gyeonggi Province. A total budget of 2.9 billion KRW was invested, and the site was completed in December of last year.
Mayor Baek Young-hyun of Pocheon said, “I deeply thank the Gyeongju Yi Clan family for their cooperation in creating the historic site and Gyeonggi Province for their generous support. I hope more people will experience Pocheon’s history and culture through the Yi Hang-bok historic site, and we will continue to strive to develop Pocheon into a humanistic city where history breathes.”
Meanwhile, Pocheon City plans to utilize Hwasan Seowon, dedicated to Yi Hang-bok, and Yongyeon Seowon, dedicated to Han-eum Yi Deok-hyung, to implement the ‘2025 National Heritage Utilization Project’ and engage in various activities for the preservation and utilization of cultural heritage.
