"Harris's Position After 'Presidential Election Defeat'... 'Taking a Walk Away from the World' Could Be an Option"

NYT "Harris Has 6 Options"

As the U.S. presidential election concluded with a landslide victory for President-elect Donald Trump, foreign media reports have emerged highlighting the future prospects of Vice President Kamala Harris.

The New York Times (NYT) reported on the 7th (local time), "Friends, aides, and Democratic figures close to Harris say it is still too early for her to consider her next move, but speculation is already rife," adding, "Harris, who must leave the White House in 74 days, has six major options."

The first option is to run again in the presidential election four years from now. The NYT noted, "Harris still has access to the Democratic donor network," and "If Trump's second term causes the chaos many fear in the U.S., she could seize the opportunity to win over voters who regret their choice." Lowering her sights to run for California governor or the Senate is also possible, but the likelihood of existing candidates stepping aside is low, the report added.

Another option is for Vice President Harris to leverage her prosecutorial background and join a law firm or lobbying group. The NYT stated, "It is a well-known path for retired politicians to enter the private sector to earn money," but added, "If Harris intends to run for president again, she would likely avoid lobbying activities or corporate legal work."

Joining civic organizations or think tanks, or writing a book, is also among the choices. The NYT observed, "After her 2016 presidential loss, Hillary Clinton wrote a memoir titled 'What Happened,' and environmental advocate Al Gore produced the documentary film 'An Inconvenient Truth,'" and evaluated, "If Harris writes a book about her time in the Biden administration and her competition with Trump, no publisher would hesitate to pick it up."

The final option recommended is to seek peace of mind by going hiking. The NYT introduced, "Hillary was once photographed hiking on trails near her home after her election loss," suggesting that eating foods missed during the campaign and taking walks to relieve election stress could be a good method.
