Yeongju City and the SK Specialty Labor Union held a meeting on the 7th at Yeongju City Hall to discuss the sale of SK Specialty Co., Ltd.
This meeting was arranged to discuss response measures by inviting Kim Hyun-min, chairman of the SK Specialty labor union, at a time when citizens' concerns about the recent sale of SK Specialty Co., Ltd. are high.
Ahead of the meeting between Yeongju City and the SK Specialty Union, Kwon Kyung-won, Senior Vice Chairman of the Union (left), Park Nam-seo, Mayor of Yeongju City, and Kim Hyun-min, Union Chairman (right), are posing for a commemorative photo.
On September 30, SK Inc. announced through the stock exchange disclosure that ‘Hahn & Company’ was selected as the preferred negotiator for the sale of shares in SK Specialty Co., Ltd., and that they plan to finalize the contract after negotiating key contract terms with the preferred negotiator.
In response, Yeongju City and the SK Specialty labor union agreed to cooperate jointly to ensure continuous investment in the Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) sector, secure employment stability including labor succession, and fulfill the 500 billion KRW scale investment MOU even after the sale.
So far, Yeongju City and SK Specialty Co., Ltd. have driven regional economic development through mutual growth. Yeongju City has supported smooth corporate operations by developing industrial water supply, opening emergency roads, expanding infrastructure, and encouraging investment enthusiasm through subsidies for large-scale investments.
SK Specialty Co., Ltd. has led job creation within the region and revitalized the local economy. In particular, in July last year, they signed an MOU for the largest investment ever of 500 billion KRW, proceeding smoothly with procedures to employ more than 200 people and develop a new industrial complex covering 60,000 pyeong.
Additionally, by promoting the ‘STAXX Project,’ which builds a startup ecosystem and pursues regional economic revitalization, they support the growth of social ventures and have produced results improving issues faced by Yeongju City such as revitalizing traditional markets, attracting tourists, increasing farm income, and solving vacant house problems.
Moreover, they have consistently carried out social contribution activities such as donating various scholarships, neighbor-helping funds, and volunteering, maintaining a win-win partnership with Yeongju City as a key pillar of the local economy.
Yeongju City plans to maintain interest in trends related to the sale to ensure that the past mutual growth continues in the future, and will make all-out efforts to ensure that safety-related investments, employment stability, large-scale investment plans, and ESG management are steadily pursued.
Mayor Park Nam-seo of Yeongju City said, “We will gather opinions from all sectors, including the SK Specialty labor union, to reduce the impact on the local community due to the sale and seek ways to steadily continue the various projects that have coexisted with the existing SK Specialty Co., Ltd.”
