A man in his 50s, who was charged with attacking the CEO of the virtual asset custody service company Haru Invest with a weapon in court after receiving coins worth about 1.4 trillion won and then suspending withdrawals, denied murder charges at his first trial.
At the first hearing held on the morning of the 8th at the Seoul Southern District Court Criminal Division 12 (Presiding Judge Dang Woojeung), the defense attorney of Kang (40) stated, "We acknowledge the courtroom disturbance but deny the attempted murder charge," and claimed special injury charges instead.
Kang is accused of repeatedly stabbing and attempting to kill Lee, the CEO of Haru Invest, who was sitting in the defendant's seat at the Seoul Southern District Court on the afternoon of August 28. Kang's defense attorney submitted a request for a psychiatric evaluation of Kang to the court in September.
Meanwhile, four executives of Haru Invest have been prosecuted for fraudulently receiving coins worth about 1.4 trillion won by deceiving investors from March 2020 to June last year, claiming to guarantee principal through risk-free operations and to provide the highest returns in the industry.
The court decided to hold the second hearing on the 2nd of next month at 11:20 a.m. to conduct witness examinations.
