Democratic Party Leadership Criticizes Yoon's Statement
Jeon Hyun-hee: "The Flame of Judgment Will Ignite"
The leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea harshly criticized President Yoon Seok-yeol's 140-minute national address. Some top committee members mentioned the "flame of judgment" and "time of candlelight," arguing that the address would instead provoke public anger.
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, said at the top committee meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 8th, "After carefully listening to President Yoon's national address yesterday, there was no reflection and he was not honest with the people," adding, "There were comments from the public saying they did not know what he apologized for." He continued, "I would like to emphasize the necessity of sincere and serious reflection and apology, as well as a complete shift in the government's policy direction." President Yoon delivered the national address lasting about 140 minutes on the 7th at the Presidential Office in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.

Park Chan-dae, floor leader, said at the meeting, "He bowed his head, but the mystery of why he bowed remains after 140 minutes," and added, "A president who treats the people like dogs and pigs does not suit a democratic republic." He continued, "He shamelessly argued that the special prosecutor investigation, in which he participated as a special prosecutor for former President Park Geun-hye, is unconstitutional," and criticized, "The reason for rejecting the special prosecutor must mean that the crimes committed are serious."
Top committee member Jeon Hyun-hee said the national address provoked public anger. Jeon said, "Now, the flame of judgment cannot be stopped from burning in the square," and "President Yoon must take corresponding responsibility for his lies." Furthermore, she stated, "The Democratic Party will persist in pushing for the Kim Gun-hee special prosecutor law and hold President Yoon accountable for his lies."
Top committee member Han Jun-ho also said, "This can no longer be resolved in the moral realm; it must be judged and punished in the judicial realm," adding, "Once again, it is time for candlelight." He said, "The Democratic Party will march passionately with the people on the now cold streets."
