Wiles is the first female White House Chief of Staff in American history and the first appointee announced by President-elect Trump. Trump said, "It is a well-deserved honor for Susie to become the first female White House Chief of Staff in American history."

Wiles is regarded as the main contributor to Trump’s election victory and is one of his long-time close aides who enjoys his deep trust. She is also known to be well-liked among Trump’s inner circle.

A veteran political consultant with over 40 years of experience, she began her political career in 1979 as a congressional aide and worked on Ronald Reagan’s 1980 presidential campaign. She was part of Trump’s first presidential campaign in 2016, leading to his election victory. Wiles’ father is Pat Summerall, a famous football player and sports broadcaster.

Although she does not like to be in the spotlight, she is praised for her self-control, work drive, and strong character. During his victory speech on the 6th, Trump called Wiles and Chris LaCivita, co-chairmen of the campaign, to the center of the stage to express his deep gratitude. When Wiles handed the microphone to LaCivita, Trump said, "We call her the ‘ice maiden.’ Susie likes to be behind the scenes, but she is not someone who should stay in the back."

CNN reported, citing sources, that Wiles set conditions before accepting the White House Chief of Staff position, particularly insisting that she would decide who could meet the president in the Oval Office.

Trump tends to be influenced by the last person he talks to, a fact widely known among those around him. During his first administration, Chiefs of Staff tried to block unofficial advisors, family, and friends from meetings to centralize ‘door handle power.’ During the campaign, Wiles also managed the passenger list for Trump’s private plane, playing a role in limiting the influence of people around Trump.

As the new administration formation officially began with Wiles’ appointment, Trump’s eldest son, considered a key figure, laid out personnel principles. Donald Trump Jr. appeared on 'Fox & Friends' on the same day, saying, "I will actively participate in the transition of power," and added, "I want to make sure who the real players are, who will actually deliver the president’s message, and who does not think they know better than the legitimately elected president." He had also stated during an event at the Republican National Convention in July that he wanted veto power over personnel decisions in the next administration, saying, "All I want to do is stop people who would be a disaster from getting in."
