A total project cost of 8.4 billion KRW was invested in this remodeling. The Hwajinpo Marine Museum has a total floor area of 1,847㎡ and consists of three floors each in the Shellfish Building and Aquarium Building. It offers exhibitions and experiences themed around Goseong’s marine life and various shellfish, establishing itself as an important tourist destination where local residents and visitors can understand Goseong’s marine ecosystem.
The most notable feature of this remodeling is its transformation into an experiential museum utilizing digital technology. Tourists can directly interact with digital exhibits, providing a combined learning and play tourism experience. These experiential elements make it an ideal place for family visits or school field trips, especially bringing joy to children. Additionally, video content installed throughout the museum helps visitors vividly feel the marine ecosystem.
Another major advantage of the Hwajinpo Marine Museum is that visitors can directly observe various fish species of Goseong-gun through the exhibition aquariums inside the museum. This museum, which offers both digital experiences and real-life viewing, will help deepen understanding of marine life and become an exceptionally attractive tourist destination for families seeking a balanced place for learning and play.
Furthermore, the reopening of the Hwajinpo Marine Museum is expected to have a positive ripple effect on other tourist sites within Goseong-gun. Tourist attractions such as the Hwajinpo History and Security Exhibition Hall, Geojin Traditional Market, and the Unification Observatory are geographically close, increasing the likelihood that visitors to the marine museum will naturally take interest in these other sites. This is expected to revitalize tourism and bring economic benefits to the entire region.
Ham Myeong-jun, Governor of Goseong-gun, stated, “The Hwajinpo Marine Museum has completed preparations as a new tourist attraction combining digital experiences, video content, and real aquariums through this remodeling. It will greatly contribute to local tourism demand and economic revitalization as an educational tourist site for family visitors and field learning, as well as offering various programs that couples can enjoy together.”
