1st Anniversary: Open Weekday Evenings at 9 PM and Weekends
Cafe-Style Lounge Created... 'My Own Bookstore' Too
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) has significantly enhanced various programs and services to mark the 1st anniversary of the expansion and relocation of the ‘Seocho Single-Person Household Support Center.’
The Seocho Single-Person Household Support Center was established in Seocho in 2019, the first of its kind among local governments nationwide. Created to support a happy single life for single-person households, which account for about 35% of all households in the district, the center operates various projects including health, safety, daily life, and relationship care. Last year, it expanded and relocated to the Yangjae Public Parking Building, running over 25 programs and attracting 6,600 visitors, firmly establishing itself as a hub for single-person households.
Starting this month, to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the expansion and relocation, the center has extended its operating hours until 9 PM on weekdays. It will also be open on weekends from 10 AM to 6 PM. With the center now accessible after work and on weekends, busy single-person households are expected to enjoy various programs and leisure activities.
The space has also been enhanced to provide healing. A caf?-like lounge that can accommodate about 30 people simultaneously has been created, allowing for laptop work, reading, relaxation, and social activities. To become a cultural space for local residents, a ‘My Own Bookstore’ has been set up. Here, 10 new copies of the latest bestsellers, which are difficult to borrow from libraries, are added monthly, along with entertainment options such as board games and PlayStation.
Additionally, mini pop-up lunchtime special lectures offering simple leisure activities like ukulele, meditation, and yoga are now open for registration. The ‘Seocho Single Running Crew’ has also been newly established to promote health and vitality. Located near Yangjaecheon, the center will serve as a ‘Run Base’ to support single-person households in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The Seocho Single-Person Household Support Center is open to anyone who registers on its website, where various programs and benefits can be checked and applied for.
Meanwhile, the center has played a role in assisting single-person households with inconveniences and difficulties by supporting ‘Home Security CCTV Installation’ for safety care, the ‘Smart Care Plug Project’ as a safety device to prevent solitary deaths, and small repair costs such as replacing insect screens and LEDs. It also operates the Single Academy program, offering free customized educational courses reflecting trends in crafts, daily life, hobbies, and cooking.
Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, “The Seocho Single-Person Household Support Center will establish itself as a more friendly and vibrant community space not only for single-person households but for all local residents,” adding, “We will continue to support various programs so that all residents can enjoy cultural and leisure activities and experience emotional stability.”
