"Because women usually don't eat it," was the reply

Yunsookhee, a mukbang YouTuber with 200,000 subscribers, expressed her frustration, saying she was unfairly denied kkakdugi side dish at a Chinese restaurant simply because she is a woman.

Recently, a shorts video containing this story was posted on the YouTube channel "Yunsookhee YunSuki Drinking Alone Woman." Visiting Gunsan, Jeonbuk, Yunsookhee said, "Since I'm in Gunsan, I should eat jjambbong," and headed to a Chinese restaurant.

While eating the seafood jjambbong she ordered, she noticed that she alone did not receive kkakdugi by looking at the neighboring tables. Facing the camera, Yunsookhee said, "Other customers got both danmuji and kkakdugi. I only got danmuji."

In the video, tables with both kkakdugi and danmuji can be seen, unlike Yunsookhee's table which only had danmuji. She muttered to herself, "They wouldn't withhold kkakdugi just because I came alone as a woman," then asked an employee, "Why didn't you give me kkakdugi?"

The employee replied, "Usually, women don't eat (kkakdugi). Would you like some?" Yunsookhee was baffled and said, "Where is it that women don't eat kkakdugi?" She pointed out, "I've never heard or seen that women don't eat kkakdugi. Even if they gave it first, some might say they don't eat it, but where is the case that they don't give it because someone is a woman?" The employee then apologized, saying, "If you had asked, we would have given it. Sorry."

Netizens who saw the video showed support for the YouTuber with comments like, "There are quite a few places like that. Many give smaller portions to women," "I'm a woman and I love kkakdugi," "Look at them blaming the customer till the end," "Saying women don't eat kkakdugi? They must be men," "That's clear discrimination," "They could have just said they forgot. They really don't know how to run a business," and "What is this, picking a fight with the customer?" On the other hand, some sympathized with the Chinese restaurant, saying, "Maybe because only one bowl was ordered," and "Maybe women often leave food uneaten."
