Contribution to Carbon Reduction and Implementation of Green Urban Railroads

Gwangju Transportation Corporation Receives 'Korea Green Management Award' Jo Ik-moon, President of Gwangju Transportation Corporation.

Gwangju Transportation Corporation will receive the ‘Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award’ at the ‘2024 Korea Green Management Awards’ held on the 8th at the Maeil Business Newspaper Media Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, in recognition of its contribution to practicing carbon neutrality through environmentally friendly management.


The ‘Green Management Awards’ is a government award given to outstanding organizations after comprehensively evaluating domestic companies and organizations on the establishment and operation of eco-friendly management systems, efforts to respond to climate change by reducing fine dust, and more. It is held annually by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Environment.


The corporation was recognized in this award for its efforts to realize carbon neutrality by implementing a green urban railway. In particular, it received high marks for being the first urban railway operator to establish an ESG management system, exceeding the annual greenhouse gas target management system, and leading sustainable development by operating an integrated air quality management platform to create a pleasant station environment.


Cho Ik-moon, President of Gwangju Transportation Corporation, said, “We are pleased to have our efforts to grow sustainably together with citizens amid worsening climate change recognized,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to contribute to the realization of ‘Carbon Neutral Gwangju 2045.’”
