On the 7th, Won Deok-jae, Director of the Welfare and Culture Bureau of Guri City, announced these key policies of Guri City.
Guri City will raise the monthly honorary allowance for national veterans and the spouses of deceased war veterans from the current 200,000 KRW to 300,000 KRW, an increase of 100,000 KRW, starting January next year. In particular, a new "War Hero Allowance" will be established for veterans of the Korean War (6·25), providing 100,000 KRW monthly.
Next year, Guri City plans to create 3,172 senior job opportunities, an increase of 140 from this year. The city will recruit participants for senior job projects this month, including public interest activities, social service types, and market-type projects, totaling 3,172 people. Applications can be submitted at the eight administrative welfare centers in Guri City’s districts, Guri Senior Club, Guri Silver Workforce Bank, and Guri City Comprehensive Welfare Center.
Guri City will also promote a child abuse prevention campaign. On the 19th, in observance of Child Abuse Prevention Day, the city will hold a campaign around Guri Square in cooperation with the Guri Child Protection Agency, Guri Police Station, and Gyeonggi-do Child Care Guri Center. Activities will include placard promotions, child abuse prevention education, commemorative tree planting, and awareness improvement sticker posting.
Furthermore, Guri City is pursuing the establishment of a science high school. Together with the Guri-Namyangju Office of Education, the city plans to submit the application for the establishment of Guri Science High School to the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education by the deadline on the 8th.
Guri City has gathered public opinions on attracting a science high school through meetings of its own Education Development Committee and has conducted online and offline signature campaigns since October. A working-level consultative body with the Office of Education has also been formed to prepare the application for the science high school.
Additionally, from the 21st of last month until the 29th of this month, Guri City is accepting applications for opportunity income for athletes for six weeks. This project provides opportunity income for social value-creating activities by athletes, helping Guri City athletes to engage in their activities more stably and contributing to the development of sports in Guri City.
The recipients are athletes aged 19 or older as of October 2nd, who are registered residents of Guri City and are active players, coaches, referees, or player managers with personal income recognized below 120% of the median income (2,674,134 KRW per month for one person). They will receive 1.5 million KRW once a year.
Applications can be submitted online through the ‘Gyeonggi Minwon 24’ website or in person by the applicant or a proxy at the district administrative welfare centers.
Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun stated, "Improving the treatment of national veterans, senior job projects, and child abuse prevention campaigns are important policies actively pursued to enhance the quality of life for residents. We will continue to implement various projects to provide a better environment."
