Debate Program for Elementary Grades 1-3
Starting from the 21st... Enhancing Logical and Critical Thinking Skills
Gyeonggi Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) Ilsan Library announced on the 7th that it will operate "Children Jury's Choice" with classic works for 20 elementary school students in grades 1 to 3 starting from the 21st.
"Children Jury's Choice" is a linked program of "Library Jury's Choice," a participatory reading activity held at Ilsan Library since April, where participants write their opinions on situations occurring in books as if they were in that situation. It is a debate program where participants read classic works together and logically express their opinions on issues using speech and writing.
The program will run from the 21st to December 26th, every Thursday from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, consisting of a total of six sessions.
Each session will involve reading various classic works such as "Latecomer John," "The Pied Piper of Hamelin," and "The Three Little Pigs as Told by the Wolf," followed by writing, group discussions, mock trials, and pros and cons debates about the situations in the works. The lectures will be conducted by reading and writing instructor Kim Chae-yeon.
A library official said, "We hope this program helps participants become familiar with classic works and improve their logical thinking and reasoning skills."
Applications for the program have been accepted on a first-come, first-served basis since the 7th through the Goyang City Library Center website -> Reading Culture -> Program Application. For more details, please contact Ilsan Library.
