Foreigners as Net Sellers for 3 Consecutive Months, KOSPI Net Sold Over 4 Trillion Won

Foreign investors have shown a 'selling' trend in the domestic stock market for three consecutive months. They net sold more than 4 trillion won in the domestic stock market. On the other hand, they net purchased more than 5 trillion won in listed bonds.

According to the "October 2024 Foreign Securities Investment Trends" announced by the Financial Supervisory Service on the 8th, foreign investors net sold 4.388 trillion won of domestic listed stocks last month. They net sold 4.216 trillion won in the KOSPI market and 172 billion won in the KOSDAQ market.

Foreign investors recorded net sales for three consecutive months following August. They had maintained a net buying trend for nine consecutive months until July but shifted to net selling in August.

By country, the Virgin Islands (100 billion won) and Malaysia (100 billion won) showed net purchases. The United States (-1.3 trillion won) and Luxembourg (-700 billion won) recorded net sales.

As of the end of last month, the scale of domestic listed stocks held by foreign investors was 728.87 trillion won (27.7% of market capitalization).

In the bond market, foreign investors recorded net investments for three consecutive months by purchasing 5.527 trillion won of listed bonds. They net purchased 8.999 trillion won of listed bonds and received 3.472 trillion won upon maturity.

In October, the highest net investment amount was in Monetary Stabilization Bonds (2.8 trillion won), followed by Treasury Bonds (2 trillion won). The balance of listed bonds held by foreign investors was 268.937 trillion won (10.5% of the listed balance).
