Chairman Choi Oechul: "Please Practice Sharing"
The Yeongnam Saemaeul Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Choi Oechul, President of Yeungnam University) delivered the 'Academic Encouragement Scholarship' on the 7th to support junior students. This scholarship has been continuing for 22 years as a token of love for juniors.
The Yeongnam Saemaeul Scholarship Foundation was formed by alumni who received the 'Saemaeul Scholarship' while studying in the Department of Community Development at Yeungnam University (currently the Department of Saemaeul International Development) to support the academic pursuits of juniors. Chairman Choi Oechul led the establishment of the Yeongnam Saemaeul Scholarship Foundation in 2003 and has been serving as chairman since then.
Since its establishment, the Yeongnam Saemaeul Scholarship Foundation has awarded scholarships annually, and this time it provided scholarships totaling 16 million KRW to 16 students. So far, it has supported 290 students with scholarships amounting to 274.5 million KRW.
The scholarship recipients have built their major competencies in their departments and have gone on to work actively in international organizations and related institutions such as the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s International Development Cooperation Team, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the KDI School of Public Policy and Management, the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements, and the Saemaeul Central Association.
The Yeongnam Saemaeul Scholarship Foundation has provided scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students without degree restrictions, including those in the Department of Saemaeul International Development, the Department of Computer Engineering, and the School of Economics and Finance. Among the recipients, African and Southeast Asian international students have also been selected. This time, students who support overseas advanced major studies were primarily selected to strengthen their global win-win development capabilities.
Chairman Choi Oechul of the Yeongnam Saemaeul Scholarship Foundation (President of Yeungnam University) said, "I am grateful to all the members of the scholarship foundation who have helped continue this scholarship, filled with seniors’ love for juniors, for over 20 years. We plan to increase the number of scholarship awards and expand fundraising efforts in the future. I hope that students will demonstrate their potential and move forward vigorously toward their dreams based on the scholarships filled with seniors’ affection. I also expect them to grow into individuals who can give back to society by carrying on the spirit of sharing practiced by their seniors."
