IM is accelerating preparations for testing and mass production by providing composite copper foil film samples to a major domestic secondary battery company.
On the 7th, IM announced that it is conducting tests by providing composite copper foil film samples produced at its Mado plant in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, to a leading domestic secondary battery company. Since internal tests have already been completed and excellent performance confirmed, it is expected that the quality verification results from the client company will also be outstanding.
Composite copper foil film is a new material that replaces the conventional electrolytic copper foil used as the anode current collector in secondary batteries. Recently, composite copper foil film has attracted attention as a material that reduces the risk of thermal runaway, which has become an issue due to electric vehicle fire accidents domestically and internationally. In particular, compared to conventional electrolytic copper foil, it offers price competitiveness and weight reduction, raising industry interest in the commercialization of composite copper foil.
An IM representative stated, "Following the establishment of the production line for mass production and internal testing, we have completed the provision of samples for full-scale customer testing. We will strive to complete tests that meet the requirements of secondary battery clients as soon as possible and proceed with full-scale mass production and supply."
Meanwhile, IM has signed a business agreement with Huachuang to supply composite copper foil film not only domestically but also to China, the world's largest secondary battery producing country. Huachuang is a copper foil specialist company directly invested in by CATL and BYD.
