Acquisition of Food Safety National Certification and Domestic Production Proof Certification
"Striving to Ensure Global Consumers Can Trust and Eat Safely"
Samyang Foods is taking the global competitiveness of its globally popular Buldak Bokkeummyeon to the next level.
Samyang Foods announced on the 7th that two products, Buldak Bokkeummyeon Original and Carbo Buldak Bokkeummyeon, as well as three production plants in Wonju, Iksan, and Miryang, have all obtained KFS (K-Food Safety) certification.
The KFS certification is a pilot food certification project for the globalization of domestic food jointly promoted by the Korea Food Safety Management Certification Institute, a public institution under the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and the Korea Food Industry Association. To obtain this certification, products must be certified in both areas of ‘Food Safety National Certification’ and ‘Proof of Domestic Production.’
First, the Food Safety National Certification is a certification system developed by the Korea Food Safety Management Certification Institute to be internationally recognized by strengthening the existing Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards with ▲ food safety management systems ▲ allergen management ▲ food defense plans to prevent intentional contamination ▲ prevention of food fraud aimed at obtaining unfair economic benefits by deliberately tampering with food.
Proof of Domestic Production is a system in which the Korea Food Safety Management Certification Institute certifies that Korean products are produced in domestic factories to prevent confusion with foreign products.
The Korea Food Safety Management Certification Institute conducts safety inspections according to test methods recognized by export destination countries or internationally accepted accredited test methods from raw materials through processing stages until the product is released, and issues KFS certification only for products that pass the inspection.
Starting next month, Samyang Foods plans to display the KFS certification logo on export-destined Buldak Bokkeummyeon Original and Carbo Buldak Bokkeummyeon products.
Meanwhile, Samyang Foods has collaborated with the Korea Food Safety Management Certification Institute to establish a digital-based advanced food defense system at its export hub, the Miryang plant.
This system focuses on preventing intentional contamination in food manufacturing plants. Samyang Foods established a customized food defense plan for the Miryang plant through the food defense solution developed by the Korea Food Safety Management Certification Institute. By installing digital food defense sensors designed with smart locks at raw material input areas such as flour and palm oil, unauthorized personnel access is strictly controlled and traceable.
A Samyang Foods official said, “All three domestic factories manufacturing our flagship products, Buldak Bokkeummyeon Original and Carbo Buldak Bokkeummyeon, have obtained KFS certification, and by establishing an advanced food defense system at the export hub Miryang plant, we have proven our export competitiveness. We will continue to make every effort to produce safe and high-quality products that consumers trust.”
