"Acceleration of Space Commercialization with Trump's Election"

Meritz Securities predicted on the 7th that former Republican President Donald Trump, who won the U.S. presidential election, will actively pursue the commercialization of space.

Researcher Jeong Jisoo of Meritz Securities explained, "During his tenure from 2017 to 2021, former President Trump revived the National Space Council and announced six ‘Space Policy Directives.’"

He continued, "The signing of ‘Space Policy Directive 1’ by former President Trump in December 2017 marked the start of NASA’s Artemis mission, which involves a budget of about 40 trillion won," adding, "Artemis Mission II, which was postponed once from November 2024 to September 2025, is expected to gain momentum with former President Trump’s election."

Researcher Jeong analyzed, "Former President Trump is likely to show favor with policies friendly to Elon Musk, who officially supported and sponsored him during the election campaign," and "there is a possibility that subsidies or budget allocations for Starlink users will become a reality."

He advised, "Unlike the United States, which has fully entered the 'New Space' era, Korea is at a transitional point passing through the mid-space phase," and "it is time to expand interest in domestic companies that can grow explosively alongside global New Space companies."

He identified Setrec Eye, the only domestic satellite system developer, as a promising candidate. Researcher Jeong explained, "They have participated in numerous domestic satellite development projects," and "have also succeeded in many overseas contracts."
