Yongin City announced on the 7th that it has completed the construction of a 3-meter-wide, 4.7 km-long walking trail between Yuwon Bridge in Yuwon-ri, Pogok-eup, Cheoin-gu and Wangsangyo Bridge in Wangsang-ri, Mohyeon-eup. With the creation of this section of the trail, the riverside walking path along the upper reaches of Gyeongan Stream, from Haegok-dong in Cheoin-gu to the border of Gwangju-si at Wangsang-ri, Mohyeon-eup, is now fully connected, the city added.

Gyeongan Stream, along with Songjeon Stream, is a representative river that runs north to south through Yongin City. The river passes through the adjacent Gwangju City and merges into the Namhan River.

The newly constructed walking trail section from Yuwon Bridge to Wangsangyo Bridge is one of Mayor Lee Sang-il’s key campaign pledges during the 8th local government term. The city has been promoting the project since August 2021 by dividing it into four sections, and with the completion of the final section, the city explained that it has achieved the goal of connecting the entire trail ahead of schedule.

The embankment path along Gyeongan Stream had been partially disconnected, raising concerns about safety accidents. The city invested a total project cost of 4 billion KRW to promote the trail connection project. Previously, the city completed the 2.6 km section from Yuwon Bridge in Yuwon-ri, Pogok-eup to 531-17, Galdam-ri, Mohyeon-eup, which covers sections 1 to 3, last year, and this time completed the 2.1 km construction of section 4 between Yuwon Bridge and Wangsangyo Bridge.

A city official said, "With the creation of this walking trail, citizens can now leisurely stroll along the waterway and improve their health," adding, "We will continue to connect the disconnected sections of the trail and improve the riverside area so that citizens can conveniently use it."
