The area around Mullae-dong, densely packed with ironworks shops scattering metal dust, is now vibrant with nature and gardens.

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will open the ‘Waterway Rest Area’ within Mullae Neighborhood Park with an opening ceremony at 5 p.m. on the 12th.

The district remodeled the existing pond in Mullae Neighborhood Park to create the ‘Waterway Rest Area,’ an urban waterfront space where people can relax and play with water during the summer. Through this, Mullae Neighborhood Park, a resting place for residents, has been reborn as a distinctive and attractive space where people can enjoy leisure in harmony with nature and interact with many others.

The opening ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. on the 12th next to the Rabbit Playground in Mullae Neighborhood Park. Before the main event, there will be a pre-event ensemble performance. Following that, the unveiling ceremony will begin, and the district will hold a ‘Plant One, Take One’ event with residents. The purpose is to expand everyday gardening through the medium of ‘plants’ and to create a ‘sustainable garden city’ that residents can experience firsthand.

So far, the district has declared itself as the ‘City of Flowers Yeongdeungpo, Garden City Yeongdeungpo’ and is creating lifestyle gardens filled with flowers, trees, and nature along roadsides, alleys, and various everyday places so that residents can encounter gardens close to their homes.

Among these efforts, the district expects the ‘Waterway Rest Area,’ which embraces the unique sensibility of the waterfront, to become a garden that communicates with nature and provides residents with relaxation and emotional stability.

Additionally, on the 13th, the district will hold a ‘Bulb Planting Event’ at the ‘Mullae-dong Flower Garden.’ The ‘Mullae-dong Flower Garden’ is a space returned to the residents after 23 years and marks the beginning of the ‘Garden City Yeongdeungpo.’ To welcome autumn, residents will plant bulbs such as tulips and daffodils to create a beautiful and vibrant garden for next spring. On the same day, if visitors bring their flowerpots, a horticultural therapy expert will operate a ‘Visiting Companion Plant Clinic’ providing guidance on pest control, repotting, and plant care methods.

Furthermore, from November 2 to 23, every Saturday at 4 p.m., the district will hold an ‘Autumn Mini Concert’ at the ‘Mullae-dong Flower Garden.’ From classical music to familiar songs, it will offer beautiful melodies that adorn autumn for residents visiting the garden.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “Gardens are heaven in the city and paradise on earth,” adding, “I hope that every corner you step into will be filled with the scent of flowers, making it a city of flowers and a sustainable garden city where residents can feel rest and healing, and that their lives will become more relaxed and refreshed.”
