Seoul Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced on the 7th that it will implement the "2024-2025 Winter Cold Wave Comprehensive Countermeasures" to minimize damage to residents caused by the winter cold wave.

The implementation period is from the 15th of this month to March 15th of next year. During cold wave warnings, a comprehensive cold wave support situation room will be operated for prompt response. A cold wave situation management system will be established by department to carry out various activities such as providing heating supplies to elderly living alone, checking on vulnerable groups, operating cold wave shelters, and patrolling homeless people.

In particular, 56 locations including welfare centers, senior citizen centers, and neighborhood community centers are designated as cold wave shelters and will be open for use by local residents during cold wave warnings. Heated seats at 178 bus stops and 11 smart shelters will be operated to help residents stay warm, with prior inspections conducted for this purpose.

Additionally, active guidance and publicity will be provided to help residents prepare for the cold wave. Information on preventing pipe bursts and reporting inconveniences will be strengthened, and a 24-hour situation room will be operated to receive cold wave damage reports and relay them to related organizations such as the Western Waterworks Office. Related departments including neighborhood community centers will actively promote the operating hours of cold wave shelters and cold wave action guidelines to residents.

District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung said, "Since cold weather is expected again this winter, we will thoroughly prepare to ensure that residents do not suffer damage from the cold wave," adding, "We will do our best to widely inform residents about protecting vulnerable groups, cold wave action guidelines, and the operation of cold wave shelters."
