Gwangju Office of Education, Comprehensive Mismanagement of Affiliated Organizations Jo Seok-ho, Gwangju City Council Member

It has been revealed that the management of institutions under the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education is lax.

On the 6th, Jo Seok-ho, a member of the Gwangju City Council (Democratic Party, Buk-gu 4), criticized during the administrative audit of 12 institutions under the city education office, stating, "According to this year's comprehensive audit results by the Gwangju Office of Education, nine employees of affiliated institutions used official leave citing health checkups, but the actual examination dates differed, and most of the individuals did not submit verification documents."

Assemblyman Jo said, "Some affiliated institutions have appointed heads nearing retirement, with 10 replacements over seven years, exposing them to a lax environment in service management," and emphasized, "The city education office needs to reconsider the roles and responsibilities of the heads of affiliated institutions during this critical period of transitioning to AI and digital education systems."

He also pointed out the reversed priorities regarding the usage status of the Gwangju Student Marine Training Center.

Assemblyman Jo criticized, "Except for 2020, from 2019 to 2023, the number of times faculty and staff used the condo was much higher than student usage each year," adding, "The Student Marine Training Center is deteriorating into a facility where students, the main subjects of education, are being marginalized, as agreements for faculty and staff recreational facilities are being made excluding students."

Meanwhile, as of April 2023, the number of students in the Gwangju area is 188,738, and the number of teachers and staff is 17,528.
