Chairman Choi Hojung "Welcoming the Selection of New Housing Candidate Sites in Seocho Seoripul District"

U-myeon and Yangjae-dong Area Finally Selected as New Housing Supply Zone for 20,000 Units through Greenbelt Release
Chairman Choi: "Careful Management Needed to Prevent Deterioration of Living Conditions Due to Uncontrolled Development"
"Systematic Planning Must Be Established from the Initial Stage to Avoid Traffic and Education Issues After Move-in"

Chairperson Choi Hojung of the Seoul Metropolitan Council expressed a welcoming stance on the final selection of the Seoripul area in Seocho-gu as a new housing candidate site, announced on the 5th by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport as a follow-up measure to revitalize housing supply.

Chairperson Choi said, “We welcome the announcement by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Seoul City to build 20,000 new housing units in the Seoripul district of Seocho, a greenbelt area that has already been significantly damaged and has relatively low preservation value, together with the local residents of the area.”

According to the housing supply measures jointly announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Seoul City on the day, a total of 20,000 new housing units, including ‘Mirinae House’ for newlyweds who hesitate to plan for children due to high housing costs, are expected to be supplied in the Seoripul district.

The area is expected to have abundant demand from actual housing consumers due to convenient access to nearby areas such as the Sinbundang Line, GTX-C, Gyeongbu Expressway, and Gangnam Circular Urban Expressway, as well as excellent natural scenery and proximity to adjacent business districts.

Chairperson Choi said, “While it is most gratifying that the Seoripul district has been selected as an excellent housing supply area for future generations along with resolving the long-standing wishes of local residents, caution is also required regarding the various issues expected during the project implementation process,” urging thorough preparation.

Chairperson Choi stated, “The area has already suffered from chronic traffic congestion for decades, causing pain to local residents,” and added, “Since the supply of 20,000 housing units will generate demand for more than 50,000 new residents, groundbreaking transportation measures such as the promotion of the Wirye-Gwacheon Line or the establishment of new subway stations must be included.”

He also requested, “As Seoul City has declared a housing supply plan for newlyweds, we hope that sufficient schools and parks where children can freely learn and play will also be provided,” and said, “The scale of the supplied housing should be at a level where families can live comfortably with their children.”

Along with this, Chairperson Choi Hojung pointed out, “Since the main purpose of this new housing site announcement is to provide a high-quality residential environment for future generations facing a serious low birthrate, it is necessary to respond to the demands of consumers through swift project implementation,” and stated, “Perfect preparation in advance is required, including sufficient consultation with local residents regarding the anticipated various urban issues.”

According to the announcement on the day, the Seocho Seoripul district, including the Umyeon and Yangjae-dong areas, plans to shorten the housing supply period as much as possible by shortening administrative procedures, aiming for district designation in 2026, sales start in 2029, and move-in in 2031.
