Uijeongbu Cultural Foundation Presents Three Pure Artworks at Year-End

The three selected works are 'The Most Beautiful Opera in the World La Boh?me' by La Bella Opera Company, 'Family Ballet Scrooge' by Jo Yoon-ra Ballet Company, and the play 'Ujeongmanri' by Yaegi Theater Company.

'The Most Beautiful Opera in the World La Boh?me' by La Bella Opera Company tells the heart-wrenching love story of young people with dreams shining more brilliantly than anyone else in the poor back alleys of 19th-century Paris, France. It is considered the most beautiful opera among the works of Italy's representative composer Giacomo Puccini, who passed away 100 years ago this year.

Featuring Artistic Director Lee Kang-ho, Director Hong Min-jung, conductor Park Hae-won leading the Artel Philharmonic Orchestra, Winner Opera Choir, Brillante Children’s Choir, and top domestic vocalists including soprano Choi Yoon-jung with a beautiful and smooth tone as Mimi, tenor Kim Ji-min and Jo Cheol-hee with their uniquely soft and rich tones as Rodolfo, the performance will deliver great emotion over two days from the 23rd to the 24th.

Jo Yoon-ra Ballet Company’s 'Family Ballet Scrooge' performance reinterprets the story of the character 'Scrooge' from Charles Dickens’ original work 'A Christmas Carol' through ballet dance and language. Choreographer Jo Yoon-ra’s extraordinary imagination and captivating story unfold a unique interpretation in ballet. It conveys the message of Christmas’s true meaning of ‘sharing and giving’ by depicting a warm and special day that comes amid a harsh, war-like life, exploring the true meaning of life and communication. The performance offers audiences a unique experience on the 14th at 3 PM and 6 PM.

Yaegi Theater Company’s play 'Ujeongmanri' tells the story of three generations of postal workers living during the Japanese colonial period over a hundred years ago. The play unfolds a century-long story across time and space through the perspectives of Su-hyeok, the son of Gye-dong who became a postal administration manager, and Hye-ju, Gye-dong’s granddaughter who became a mail carrier. Through the life of an ordinary family, it incorporates themes of love and marriage, independence movements and liberation, the tragedy of fratricidal war during the Korean War, and the turbulent modern history experienced through industrialization and democratization after the war. The original play will welcome audiences on December 20 at 7:30 PM and December 21 at 3 PM on the main stage of Uijeongbu Arts Center.
