Jeollanam-do's eco-friendly agriculture has been recognized nationwide for its excellence and received the Presidential Citation. The award ceremony took place on the 6th at the 2024 Local Era Expo commemorative hall held in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do.
Jeonnam's cases of spreading eco-friendly agriculture are specially exhibited at the excellent case exhibition hall of the 2024 Local Era Expo, which continues until the 8th, and will also be included in the 2024 Balanced Development Best Practices Collection to promote the dissemination of successful models.
Jeonnam Province self-assessed that this recognition reflects the achievements made together with farmers over the past 20 years.
Eco-friendly agriculture is the culmination of efforts to pursue sustainable agriculture where nature and humans coexist by not using any chemical pesticides and utilizing natural enemies and microorganisms.
To promote the spread of eco-friendly agriculture, Jeonnam Province has pioneered various nationwide first projects, including the enactment of the "Jeollanam-do School Meal Ingredient Use and Support Ordinance" in 2004, the "Jeollanam-do Organic Farming Master Designation and Operation Ordinance" in 2010, the introduction of organic ecological villages in 2010, and the establishment of eco-friendly rice concentration complexes in 2022.
Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, stated, "In a situation where the importance of healthy food is increasingly emphasized due to modern diseases such as adult diseases, eco-friendly agriculture is not a 'choice' but a 'necessity.' We will continue to make Jeonnam a global hub for eco-friendly agricultural products."
