Yeoju Citizens' Children's Performance Preference Survey 1st Place
Musical 'Alsatang' Meets You in Yeoju
The Gyeonggi Yeoju Sejong Culture and Tourism Foundation announced on the 6th that the musical 'Alsatang' will be held at the Sejong Gugakdang on the 9th.
The Yeoju Sejong Culture and Tourism Foundation conducted a preference survey earlier this year targeting Yeoju citizens to plan performances for children and adolescents reflecting their demands. As a result, the musical 'Alsatang' ranked first. Adapted from the fairy tale by author Baek Heena, the first Korean to receive the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, regarded as the Nobel Prize in children's literature, the musical 'Alsatang' sold out early, raising expectations among Yeoju citizens.
Dongdong, a shy 9-year-old who finds it difficult to speak to anyone, even friends, experiences growth after eating a mysterious 'magic candy' bought at a stationery store that allows him to hear the inner voices of various people and objects around him. The story depicts his journey of development through this experience.
The musical faithfully recreates the emotional impact of the picture book on stage by adding beautiful music and diverse stage effects to the original work's ingenious imagination and warm sentiment. Scenes such as the 'father's nagging' that all parents can relate to and Dongdong summoning the courage to 'speak to a friend' move not only children but also adults.
Lee Sun-yeol, chairman of the Yeoju Sejong Culture and Tourism Foundation, said, “Since January this year, our foundation has met citizens with various children's programs ranging from classics to musicals featuring characters beloved by children, such as 'Gogodino - Return of Gogoking,' 'Pinkfong Classic Land,' 'Alice in Wonderland,' and 'Polar Bear Laura,' and we have seen the happy faces of our children.” He added, “Going forward, our foundation will continue to lead in making Yeoju a happy place where children can dream and a good city to raise children by planning diverse programs that allow children to experience new culture and arts.”
Meanwhile, detailed performance information about the musical 'Alsatang' and other events by the Yeoju Sejong Culture and Tourism Foundation can be found on the foundation’s website.
