Gwangju Urban Corporation conducted volunteer work to assist with farm labor on the 6th in Bugye-myeon, Gunwi-gun, Daegu, together with employees from Daegu Urban Development Corporation.
This volunteer activity is the first practical case of the 'Moonlight Alliance Social Contribution Mutual Cooperation Agreement' signed by the two organizations in Gwangju last March. It was planned to address the labor shortage at the apple farms in Bugye-myeon, Gunwi-gun, a sister region of Daegu Urban Development Corporation, during the autumn harvest season.
About 20 executives and employees of Gwangju Urban Corporation participated in the volunteer work jointly with labor and management. They directly harvested apples and exchanged opinions with local farmers on specialty crop yields, market development, and Moonlight Alliance win-win cooperation plans. They also had an honest dialogue session to overcome the crisis of regional extinction.
Kim Seung-nam, president of Gwangju Urban Corporation, said, “We consider the social contribution activities for strengthening exchanges between Gwangju and Daegu under the Moonlight Alliance and for regional co-prosperity, including the relocation of the military airport, to be meaningful. We will do our best to jointly respond to the crisis of regional extinction and fulfill social responsibility for mutual development.”
