Mayor Won: "A Timely Measure to Foster Local High-Tech Industries"
Wonju City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor Won Gang-su), announced on the 6th that Buron General Industrial Complex has been designated as a ‘Opportunity Development Zone,’ a national balanced development policy that induces investment in non-metropolitan areas to revitalize the local economy and promote population inflow.

The Opportunity Development Zone at Buron General Industrial Complex covers an area of 391,241㎡ (118,351 pyeong) and is expected to attract a total investment of 292 billion KRW from 9 companies in sectors including secondary batteries, semiconductors, and medical device convergence.
Companies investing in the Opportunity Development Zone will receive various tax benefits along with financial support, which is expected to activate the sale of the industrial complex under development.
Wonju City made various efforts both domestically and internationally to designate Buron General Industrial Complex as an Opportunity Development Zone. They frequently visited government ministries, the National Assembly, and the Presidential Committee on Local Era to continuously emphasize the necessity of selecting the Opportunity Development Zone to local lawmakers and key government officials.
Additionally, they invited Woo Dong-gi, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Local Era, to hold the Wonju City Local Autonomy and Regional Balanced Development Forum. The Wonju City Council also urged the promotion of the industrial complex and requested support to ensure the designation as an Opportunity Development Zone through free speeches.
Mayor Won Gang-su of Wonju City stated, “The Opportunity Development Zone is the most timely system to solve the local issue of difficulties in attracting anchor companies for fostering advanced industries,” and added, “Through the designation of Wonju City as an Opportunity Development Zone, we will do our best to contribute to the current government’s regional balanced development policy goal of realizing a local era where it is good to live anywhere.”
