Seoul 50.4%, Incheon 49.9%
According to the "2024 Vocational High School Graduates Employment Statistics Survey Results" announced on the 6th by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Educational Development Institute, the employment rate of vocational high school graduates in Daegu for the 2023 academic year ranked first among special and metropolitan cities.
This survey targeted 63,005 graduates from 577 vocational high schools nationwide who graduated in February 2024, linking public databases from related organizations such as the National Health Insurance Service, the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service, and the Military Manpower Administration to investigate detailed employment information, including employment and further education status, as of April 1.
Looking at the employment rates by special and metropolitan cities, Daegu (65.3%), Seoul (50.4%), Busan (55.2%), Incheon (49.9%), Gwangju (55.9%), Daejeon (61.1%), and Ulsan (54.9%) ranked in that order, with Daegu showing the highest employment rate, which was 10% higher than the national average employment rate of 55.3% (a decrease of 0.4 percentage points from the previous year).
In Daegu, out of 3,574 graduates, 2,005 were excluded due to further education, military enlistment, or other recognized exclusions, leaving 1,569 job seekers, of whom 1,025 were employed, achieving an employment rate of 65.3%.
The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education analyzed that the high employment rate was due to continuous cooperation and networking with local governments, job-related organizations, companies, and universities, curriculum restructuring reflecting future new industry demands, operation of work-study dual system apprenticeship schools, promotion of specialized high school workforce development projects for small and medium-sized enterprises, vocational education innovation district projects, Daegu-style field experience learning, and operation of job-linked vocational training courses.
Kang Eun-hee, Superintendent of Education in Daegu, stated, “We will continue to support vocational high school students to develop their individual capabilities and establish themselves as key talents in various fields.”
