Homeplus Offers Half-Price Discounts on King Crab and Lobster
Starting from the 1st of this month, the biggest discount event of the year has begun. During the first weekend last week, the shelves of heavily discounted products at major supermarkets nationwide were completely emptied, drawing such intense interest that open runs occurred. Consumers, whose wallets have thinned due to high inflation and economic recession, swept up only the discounted items. The reaction was so strong that people said, "It felt like a war had broken out."
Shocking discounts will continue during the second weekend starting from the 8th. We looked into the must-buy products recommended by the MDs (MerchanDisers, product planners) in charge of discount events at each distribution channel for this event.
First, Shinsegae Department Store is offering ultra-special planned products from the 8th to the 10th in celebration of SSG Day. They are offering a 10-pack of organic eggs and 320ml of Baeksul sesame oil each for 1,500 KRW. This is said to be more than 70% cheaper than the usual price. Pork belly (500g) can be purchased for 10,000 KRW. However, to purchase these ultra-special products, you must download a coupon from the Shinsegae Department Store application (app) starting from 9 PM on the 7th.
On SSG.com, Shinsegae’s e-commerce platform, ultra-light down jackets co-planned with Snow Peak and Black Yak long down jackets are offered at special prices.
During the second week of Homeplus’s Mega Food Week event from the 7th to the 13th, Australian beef, king crab, and lobster are the representative products. All Australian clean beef products can be purchased at up to half price when paid with the event card. The event covers all Australian clean beef products including steak tenderloin, chuck eye roll for grilling, special cuts like outside skirt, and hanging tender.
Also, jumbo king crabs weighing around 2.4kg can be purchased for 179,000 KRW with the My Homeplus membership half-price discount. Jumbo lobsters weighing around 1kg are also offered at a 50% discount for 69,000 KRW. These king crabs are said to be 20% larger than red king crabs. The lobsters are about 2 to 2.5 times larger than regular lobsters, weighing around 1kg, and 2,000 of them were air-shipped directly.
Lotte Mart will also enter the second phase of the Thank You Festival starting from the 7th, with canned beer and chicken being the most eye-catching items. The 'National Beer Lager Edition (500ml)', launched as a cost-effective beer, can be purchased for 990 KRW per can when paid with the event card. The instant-cooked chicken 'Hantong Gaaadeuk Chicken (pack, domestic)' is also sold at half price for 6,495 KRW. Since only a limited quantity is prepared, it is better to hurry. If you buy both products, you have the chance to enjoy 'chimaek' (chicken and beer) for under 8,000 KRW.

Also, Kim Jong-hyun, product planner (MD) of Lotte Mart & Super Liquor Team, said, "Due to ongoing inflation this year, reflecting consumers’ desire for reasonable prices, we decided to offer this cost-effective beer priced at 990 KRW. Since this price is rarely seen in large supermarkets, we ask for many purchases during this Thank You Festival period."
