"Proving K-Nuclear Competitiveness" in Hyundai Construction's Contract Win
CEO Lee: "Inconsistent... Also Changed Stance"
On the 6th, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon urged Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, to clearly state his position on nuclear power policy, mentioning Hyundai Engineering & Construction's overseas nuclear power plant design contract.
Mayor Oh said on Facebook that day, "We received the welcome news that Hyundai Engineering & Construction has signed a design contract for the Kozloduy nuclear power plant in Bulgaria."

Mayor Oh evaluated Hyundai Engineering & Construction's achievement as "a reaffirmation of the competitiveness of K-Nuclear Power, and it is significant in that it has established a foothold for entry into the European market." He added, "The entire industry has been pushed to the brink of collapse due to the Moon Jae-in administration's short-sighted nuclear phase-out policy," citing research from Seoul National University's Nuclear Policy Center estimating the damage caused by this mistake at 47.4 trillion won.
He particularly criticized Lee Jae-myung, saying, "Nevertheless, the Democratic Party is only repeating inconsistent positions without any reflection." Mayor Oh pointed out, "During his time as governor of Gyeonggi Province, he aligned with the Moon administration's push, saying 'nuclear phase-out is the way to go,' but soon changed his stance to the ambiguous term 'reduction (감) of nuclear power.' Recently, he has even shown an attitude seemingly in favor of extending the lifespan of nuclear power plants, calling it 'pragmatism.'"
Mayor Oh continued, "To ensure energy security, respond to the climate crisis, and create jobs, fostering the nuclear power industry is essential," emphasizing, "Lee Jae-myung must now clearly state his position on nuclear power policy and participate in a bipartisan manner in fostering the nuclear power industry for the national interest."
