Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Holds Cancer Overcoming Talk Concert with Samsung Seoul Hospital

On the 6th, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance announced that it held a 'Cancer Overcoming Talk Concert' delivering messages of hope to cancer patients, together with Samsung Medical Center on the 5th.

At the Cancer Overcoming Talk Concert, about 100 patients and their families attended. They conveyed messages of hope and encouragement to help them return to work and resume their new daily lives after treatment.

Professor Jo Juhee and Professor Yoo Jonghan from Samsung Medical Center's Cancer Hospital participated as speakers, providing expert lectures on the meaning of work in life with cancer and on healthy lifestyle management. Cancer survivors appeared as panelists and sincerely shared their experiences on how they were able to return to work.

Many cancer patients face difficulties returning to daily life and work even after completing treatment. Although the 5-year survival rate of cancer patients in Korea has exceeded 70%, only 30% have returned to their workplaces. The main reasons cancer patients struggle to return to work include decreased physical strength, difficulties in health management, and social perceptions.

To support the social reintegration of cancer patients who are socially marginalized, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance and Samsung Medical Center jointly established the Cancer Patient Quality of Life Research Institute in June. The institute will continuously research the physical, mental, and economic hardships of patients and explore effective ways to improve their quality of life.

A representative from Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance said, “This event aims for the insurance company to enhance social value and provide differentiated customer value beyond economic compensation experiences,” adding, “Through this, we hope to support the new lives of cancer patients and eliminate social prejudices against them.”
