Mayor Sang-il Lee Holds Meeting with Giheung-gu Resident Representatives
"Will Take Proactive Measures to Solve Apartment Complex Issues"
"I will urge public officials to make greater efforts."
On the 5th, at the meeting room of Giheung-gu Office in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin met with 60 representatives of apartment residents in the Giheung-gu area and said this, even using the expression "I am sorry."

The reason Mayor Lee apologized to the resident representatives was due to issues with apartment defect repairs. During the meeting, when a representative from Apartment A pointed out that the defect repair problems were not being resolved due to the negligence or passive attitude of city officials, Mayor Lee stated, "If the city has neglected or failed to actively make efforts to solve the problems raised by the residents, that would be irresponsible and passive."
The meeting was organized by Mayor Lee to listen to the difficulties faced by residents of apartments and other multi-family housing and to seek solutions. As of the 30th of last month, there are a total of 257 apartment complexes with 126,776 households in Giheung-gu. This accounts for 44.1% (by number of households) of the entire Yongin city, which has 599 complexes and 287,170 households.
During the meeting that lasted over three hours, Mayor Lee candidly expressed his views while discussing various issues ranging from current matters in each apartment complex to urban development plans with the resident representatives. Previously, the day before, he had also held a meeting with resident representatives in the Cheoin-gu area.
In particular, at the meeting, Mayor Lee emphasized the need for proactive efforts by responsible public officials to resolve defect repair issues, which have recently caused conflicts between residents and construction companies nationwide. His position is that "if the relevant company is passive regarding apartment defect repairs, the city must actively step in and make efforts to resolve the problem."
Meanwhile, prior to the communication meeting, the city received a total of 63 suggestions from resident representatives: 18 related to multi-family housing, 4 to urban and construction, 28 to roads and transportation, 10 to safety, health, and environment, and 3 to education and culture. Among these, the city has completed or is processing 22 cases, is reviewing 26 cases, and 15 cases were beyond the city's authority or legal scope to resolve. The city also provided written feedback on the review results of the pre-submitted suggestions to the representatives of each complex.
Mayor Lee plans to hold the final meeting with resident representatives of multi-family housing in Suji-gu on the 12th.
