A post claiming that there were bugs floating in the broth of a 'whole chicken' ordered at a restaurant has sparked controversy.

The problematic post was recently uploaded to an online community under the title "Current Hygiene Status of a Restaurant Causing a Stir." The author, Mr. A, said he ordered and ate a 'whole chicken' at a restaurant not long ago. The whole chicken dish is served in a large pot with a whole chicken, napa cabbage, potatoes, rice cakes, mushrooms, and other ingredients boiled together at the table.

The issue arose after Mr. A and his party finished eating all the solid ingredients. The photo he shared shows several black sesame seed-like substances floating in the whole chicken broth. However, upon closer inspection, the foreign substances were confirmed to be bugs, not sesame seeds, causing shock.

Netizens who saw the photo reacted with comments such as, "You wouldn't notice unless you looked closely. I probably would have just eaten it," "Now we have to doubt whether it's sesame seeds or not before eating," "I guess I shouldn't buy food outside anymore," "It's not just one bug. That's really disgusting," "How do they run their kitchen?" "Please reveal the restaurant's name," and "I almost threw up while eating."

Some netizens speculated that the foreign substance was aphids. One netizen said, "They were probably on the napa cabbage leaves. I think this is separate from the restaurant's hygiene," adding, "If you don't carefully check the wrinkled underside of the napa cabbage leaves, this can happen. It's a common occurrence if pesticides aren't used." Aphids are typical pests that damage crops by piercing the stems or leaves with their tube-like mouths and sucking out the sap.

Meanwhile, if foreign substances are found in food, you can report the restaurant information, place of purchase, ordered food, and the situation of foreign substance discovery directly to 1399 or the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. False reports may result in imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million won.
