Until the End of Next Year... Enforcement Ends at 7 PM
Mayor Lee Sang-il: "Thorough Management of Citizen Safety as Well"

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province has decided to extend the suspension of illegal parking enforcement in commercial areas to help self-employed business owners struggling with management difficulties due to reduced consumption.

On the 6th, Yongin City announced that it has decided to extend the suspension of illegal parking enforcement in commercial areas, which was scheduled to end this year, by one year until the end of next year.

Self-Employed Crisis... Yongin City Extends No-Parking Enforcement Suspension in Commercial Areas for One More Year

This measure has been implemented by the city for the past three years to support small business owners and self-employed individuals who have faced difficulties due to the impact of COVID-19. The city shortened the illegal parking enforcement hours in commercial areas from 9 PM to 7 PM. Although the suspension was initially ended at the end of last year, the city reinstated the suspension from February 26 until the end of this year following requests for extension from small business owners and the self-employed.

However, as the business environment has worsened recently with an increase in the closure rate of small businesses in the area, the city explained that it has decided to extend the suspension until the end of next year. The city plans to focus on analyzing areas with CCTV installed among commercial districts with many small business establishments or small individual businesses, and select suspension target areas based on complaints received from three districts.

Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, said, "Since the difficulties faced by small business owners and the self-employed directly affect their livelihoods, we made this decision," adding, "We will carefully manage to prevent any safety accidents resulting from the suspension of enforcement."

However, six major illegal parking prohibition zones, including intersection corners, fire hydrants, bus stops, crosswalks, sidewalks, and school zones, are excluded from the suspension. Illegal parking in these areas will result in fines and towing if necessary. In residential areas and other non-commercial zones, illegal parking enforcement will continue until 9 PM. Additionally, the measure of not enforcing parking violations during lunchtime from 11:30 AM to 2 PM will also continue.
