Lighting Festival Featuring Various Sculptures... Festival Extended to 3 Months, One Month Longer Than Last Year
Starting with the Lighting Ceremony on November 11, Creating a Space for Residents to Visit
Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) will fill Byeolbitnaerincheon with sparkling lights, gifting happiness through a dazzling display at the ‘4th Byeolbitnaerincheon Gwanak Starlight Walk,’ starting from the 11th.
Held for the fourth time this year, the ‘Gwanak Starlight Walk’ is part of the ‘Byeolbit Sinsari Commercial District Renaissance’ project and is the only lighting festival in Seoul’s autonomous districts that utilizes a stream.
This year’s ‘Gwanak Starlight Walk,’ under the subtitle ‘Starlight Garden in the City,’ will decorate approximately 200 meters along the stream from Sinlim Bridge to Bongnim Bridge with warm-colored lights and sculptures to create a cozy atmosphere along Byeolbitnaerincheon.
Starting with the main gate adorned with butterflies and flowers, large installations such as a 10-meter tall tree, a golden carriage seemingly floating through the Milky Way, and bear sculptures have been set up to create a warm exhibition space contrasting the cold winter air.
Additionally, for the first time this year, small trees will be installed on the waterside terrace of Byeolbitnaerincheon, offering residents a place to rest and feel as if they are in a forest garden.
Gwanak-gu’s representative light festival, ‘Gwanak Starlight Walk,’ will be held from the lighting ceremony on November 11 until February 9 of next year, providing a romantic nighttime scenery for residents visiting Byeolbitnaerincheon and adding happiness to visitors’ strolls.
This year, the operating period will be extended by one month compared to last year, and performances that audiences can enjoy together will be held for three weeks on Fridays through Sundays: November 15?17, November 22?24, and December 6?8, on the waterside stage of Byeolbitnaerincheon.
The performances are open to anyone visiting the waterside stage of Byeolbitnaerincheon, with hours from 5 PM to 8 PM on Fridays, and from 4 PM to 8 PM on Saturdays and Sundays.
To revitalize nearby markets, from November 15 to December 21, a total of six weeks, coupon events and other activities will be held every Saturday to encourage residents to visit and shop at Sinwon Market and Seowon-dong shopping district near Byeolbitnaerincheon.
In addition, the district is simultaneously promoting the creation of a ‘Starlight Garden’ filled with the scent of autumn around Byeolbitnaerincheon. Areas previously damaged by vines and shrubs harming the stream’s ecosystem and landscape are being transformed by combining waterside and terrestrial plants with multi-layered planting structures to create beautiful scenery and provide another attraction.
Since 2020, the district has invested 8 billion KRW in the ‘Byeolbit Sinsari Commercial District Renaissance’ project to revitalize the commercial area around Sinlim Station through 2025.
District Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “As this year is the final year of the Byeolbit Sinsari Commercial District Renaissance project, we will work even harder to successfully complete the project,” adding, “Through the Gwanak Starlight Walk, we will fill the area with sights and activities to create a Byeolbit Sinsari that satisfies both merchants and residents.”
