Minjoo Continues Special Prosecutor Offensive... Weekend Civic Groups' Solidarity Outdoor Rally Scheduled (Comprehensive)

Minju: "'Judgment Solidarity' Principle"
First Time at Party Leadership Level

The Democratic Party of Korea plans to hold an outdoor rally this weekend on the 9th in solidarity with civic groups, urging the acceptance of the 'Special Prosecutor Law for First Lady Kim Geon-hee.'

Kang Yoo-jung, the party's floor spokesperson, told reporters at the National Assembly on the afternoon of the 5th, "The Special Prosecutor Law is expected to be submitted to the plenary session of the National Assembly on the 14th," adding, "Ahead of this, we will hold a rally in Seoul this weekend in cooperation with civic groups and also conduct a signature campaign to ensure the enactment of the special prosecutor law."

So far, individual lawmakers have attended civic group rallies, but this is the first time the party leadership has jointly held a rally at the leadership level.

The party leadership initially planned to hold regional focused rallies in Daejeon, but it is known that they reached this decision after civic groups proposed holding a joint rally.

However, the Democratic Party emphasized that this rally is separate from the 'First General Rally for the Resignation of the Yoon Seok-yeol Administration' hosted by the 'Yoon Seok-yeol Regime Resignation Movement Headquarters.'

A Democratic Party official said, "We will not join rallies that call for impeachment or regime resignation," adding, "The rallies the Democratic Party participates in are only a 'judgment coalition' against government failures, not rallies calling for impeachment."

Although the Democratic Party leadership is currently distancing itself from impeachment and resignation, political circles predict that the mere fact of holding a joint rally with civic groups could lead to stronger voices emerging compared to previous Democratic Party rallies.

Meanwhile, Democratic Party lawmakers pitched tents in front of the National Assembly steps at 8 p.m. that day and held a proclamation ceremony for the 'First Emergency Action of Democratic Party Lawmakers to Ensure the Special Prosecutor Law for First Lady Kim.' In his opening remarks, Floor Leader Park Chan-dae said, "If President Yoon Seok-yeol tries to evade the crisis with excuses and justifications in his national address on the 7th, he will face the end of his power amid the people's anger erupting like lava."

The Democratic Party plans to continue its public opinion campaign from that day until the 13th, the day before the plenary session's vote on the special prosecutor law. After the law is processed in the plenary session on the 14th, if President Yoon immediately exercises his veto, the party plans to enter a 'Second Emergency Action' until the 28th, when a re-vote is expected.
