The operation of this shredding support team will begin on November 12 in Ganseong-eup and proceed in order through Geojin-eup, Hyeonnae-myeon, Jukwang-myeon, and Toseong-myeon until December 10. It aims to contribute to reducing the risk of forest fires through the safe collection and shredding of agricultural byproducts within the region.
The Agricultural Byproduct Shredding Support Team consists of two groups totaling 12 members, all of whom are members of the Goseong County Rural Leaders Association. The team will prioritize shredding crops within 100 meters of forest-adjacent farmland such as peanuts, sesame, perilla, soybeans, chili peppers, sweet potatoes, and corn, targeting local farms first, followed by elderly farmers, vulnerable groups, and other farmland areas.
In the first half of this year, the Agricultural Byproduct Shredding Support Team completed shredding work for a total of 33 farms covering 11 hectares. For the second half, promotion has been strengthened through banner postings and text message notifications, with applications and registrations accepted at the administrative welfare centers of five eup and myeon.
Additionally, alongside the shredding work, education and publicity regarding the ineffectiveness of burning rice paddies and field ridges will be conducted to raise farmers’ awareness of forest fire prevention and establish a safe collection and disposal system for agricultural byproducts. The shredded agricultural byproducts are expected to be used as compost, contributing to natural cycle agriculture practices that reduce fine dust and pest outbreaks.
Yoon Hyung-rak, Director of the Goseong County Agricultural Technology Center, stated, “The operation of this Agricultural Byproduct Shredding Support Team will greatly help not only in preventing forest fires but also in reducing fine dust and pests occurring in agricultural fields.”
