The Only Local Government Nationwide... Minister of the Interior and Safety's 'Institutional Commendation'
Praised for Achievements such as 'Alley-type Shopping Districts and 3-No Special Guarantee'

On the 5th, Buk-gu, Gwangju City announced that it was the only local government nationwide to be selected as an ‘Outstanding Support Organization’ at the ‘2024 Korea Small Business Owners Convention’ hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
The Korea Small Business Owners Convention is a festival for communication and harmony among small business owners, held annually since 2006 to commemorate ‘Small Business Owners Day (November 5)’ and to raise social and economic awareness of small business owners, as well as to discover and encourage individuals and organizations that have contributed to the development of small business owners. This year’s convention, held on the largest scale ever, was themed ‘Small Business Owners Must Survive for Korea to Smile’ and was attended by about 4,000 exemplary small business owners from across the country.
Buk-gu was highly evaluated for initiatives such as ‘the first national-level small business support organization established in Gwangju,’ ‘ordinance to relax regulations for designating alley-type shopping districts,’ ‘creation and operation of a mutual growth fund for restoring the livelihood economy,’ and ‘promotion of field-centered cooperative support activities’ at this convention.
In particular, the expansion of ‘alley-type shopping districts’ to 21 locations with comprehensive support, as well as projects targeting micro small business owners such as the ‘3-No Special Guarantee (No Collateral, No Interest, No Guarantee Fee),’ ‘Hope Dream Savings Account launch,’ and ‘card fee support project’ were not only practical aids to small business owners but also praised as excellent cases leading the realization of a mutually prosperous local economy.
Buk-gu was the only one among 243 local governments nationwide to be recognized for its efforts and achievements in revitalizing small business owners, earning the title of ‘Outstanding Support Organization’ and receiving the ‘Minister of the Interior and Safety Institutional Commendation.’
Moon In, Mayor of Buk-gu, said, “This selection as an outstanding organization was possible thanks to the efforts of the staff who have always worked closely on the ground to resolve the difficulties of small business owners, the foundation of the local economy,” and emphasized, “We will continue to promote overcoming crises and advancing small business owners as a key task of district administration, giving hope to small business owners and bringing warmth and vitality to the local economy.”
