KCC Rejects TBS Non-Profit Corporation's Bylaws Amendment Application Again... "Deliberation and Resolution Required"

TBS Statute Amendment Rejected Again
"Change in Source of Operating Funds"
Current 'Single-Person System' at KCC Makes Deliberation and Resolution Difficult

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) has once again rejected TBS's application to amend its articles of incorporation for the purpose of operating as a non-profit foundation after being released from its status as a Seoul Metropolitan Government-affiliated organization.

On the 5th, the KCC announced that it decided to reject TBS's application for approval of the articles of incorporation amendment submitted on the 8th of last month. TBS had applied for approval to amend its articles to disclose the annual donation amount and utilization performance on its website in order to be recommended and designated as a public interest corporation.

The KCC explained that, as with the first amendment application submitted in August, after conducting legal consultations, this case involves changing the source of operating funds and therefore cannot be handled solely by amending the articles of incorporation.

It also added that this matter requires the commission’s review and resolution, such as approval of major changes to the re-licensing business plan.

Currently, the KCC is operating under a single-person system with Kim Taegyu acting as the interim chairman, following the suspension of Chairman Lee Jinsuk due to impeachment proceedings, making review and resolution impossible.

Acting Chairman Kim said, "I regret that the KCC is currently operating under a single-person system and cannot conduct a full review of TBS’s future operational direction," and added, "I hope the KCC will be normalized soon so that a desirable solution for TBS’s operational direction can be found."
