Busan Transportation Corporation Conducts On-Site Inspection of Safety Transport for Busan Fireworks Festival... Crowd Control Measures

Increased 240 Trips on Lines 1-4, Added 1,393 Safety Personnel

Request to Use Less Crowded Stations to Prevent Crowd Accidents

Busan Transportation Corporation (President Lee Byung-jin) announced on the 5th that it will implement safety enhancement measures such as pre-inspections of adjacent stations and stations expected to be crowded, as well as additional train operations, to ensure safe transportation of citizens ahead of the ‘19th Busan Fireworks Festival’ scheduled for the 9th.

President Lee Byung-jin received reports on safety management measures by sector at the corporation’s headquarters emergency situation room and visited six stations including Gwang-an Station, Suyeong Station, and Geumryeonsan Station on Line 2 to inspect the safety of station facilities such as passenger passageways and escalators, and to check preparations for the event.

The corporation is making every effort to ensure safety management in anticipation that the majority of Busan Fireworks Festival spectators will use the urban railway.

On the day of the festival, a total of 240 additional train services will be operated across all lines to increase transportation capacity. Accordingly, the train intervals will be shortened from the usual 5 to 8 minutes to 4.5 to 7 minutes before the event (16:00?19:00), and from the usual 8 to 10 minutes to 3 to 6 minutes after the event (21:00?22:00). Detailed train timetables by station can be checked on the Busan Transportation Corporation website and on notices posted at each station.

To prevent accidents, all available personnel will be mobilized, with a total of 2,478 staff on duty that day. They will be concentrated at major stations and transfer stations such as Gwang-an Station, Geumryeonsan Station, Suyeong Station, and Seomyeon Station to guide passengers and maintain order. The corporation plans to secure safety by controlling passenger entry in stages (outside the entrance - gate - platform) in case of dangerous situations such as crowding.

In particular, Gwang-an Station and Geumryeonsan Station may allow trains to pass without stopping depending on congestion inside the stations for citizen safety. Therefore, citizens visiting the Busan Fireworks Festival site on the 9th are recommended to board and alight at Namcheon Station and Millak Station, where congestion is relatively low.

Lee Byung-jin, President of Busan Transportation Corporation, said, “We are making thorough inspections and putting in company-wide efforts to ensure the successful hosting of the large-scale local event, the Busan Fireworks Festival, and the safe movement of citizens,” adding, “We hope all citizens enjoy the festival while paying attention to safety.”
