Hoseo University in Asan, Chungnam, announced on the 5th that it received the Grand Prize and other awards at the 1st Genetic Resources Access and Benefit-Sharing (ABS) Short-form Contest hosted by the National Institute of Biological Resources under the Ministry of Environment.
The contest was organized to raise public interest and understanding of access to genetic resources and benefit-sharing, which are part of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity.
The Grand Prize was awarded to Heo Yeongyo, a senior in the Department of Animal Health and Welfare, while the Excellence Award went to a team of second-year students, Ham Gayoun and Park Chaewon, from the same department.
Professor Park Suji, the academic advisor, said, "I am pleased that through this contest, students have developed a positive awareness of protecting Korea's environmental ecology and securing biological sovereignty."
