Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) announced on the 5th that it solidified its status as a leading autonomous district in resource circulation by winning the Grand Prize in the ‘2024 Autonomous District Recycling Performance Evaluation’ hosted by Seoul City on the 1st.
In this evaluation, Jung-gu received high marks by subdividing recyclable items such as textile scraps, coffee grounds, and waste vinyl to strengthen the separation and collection system, and by discovering emitters who must process business waste on their own, thereby reducing household waste through various methods.
The district operates ‘Sseuregi Yeonguso Saerom,’ the nation’s first resource circulation complex education space, widely promoting the importance of resource circulation to residents through recycling and upcycling exhibitions, experiences, and education.
Additionally, to activate the separation and collection of recyclables in daily life, a volume-based waste bag exchange program is held every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the community service centers, receiving great response. Residents can exchange transparent PET bottles, paper packs, used batteries, cans, glass bottles, and waste vinyl for volume-based waste bags, increasing voluntary participation in separation and collection.
Moreover, through the ‘2024 Infinite Practice Challenge,’ a program certifying residents’ efforts to reduce waste and save resources in daily life is being operated. Through various tasks, the resource circulation culture is being further expanded together with residents.
Mayor Kim Gil-seong said, “Winning the Grand Prize this time is an achievement made possible by the active participation of residents in separating recyclables,” and added, “We will continue to take the lead in creating a sustainable resource circulation city by reducing household waste and promoting recycling as a resource circulation city.”
