Eco-Friendly Culture Breathing New Life into Old Hanbok
From Pleats Mood Lamps to Hanbok Fabric Amulets and Pollock
Seonbi Sesang in Yeongju, Gyeongbuk, presents a special cultural experience that adds new value to Hanbok. From the 9th until December 29th, every Saturday and Sunday, the ‘Hanbok Upcycling Experience’ program will be held at the Seonbi Sesang Hanbok Village.
This program, titled ‘The Glamorous Transformation of Hanbok That Was About to Be Discarded,’ offers a total of eight diverse experiences using old and worn Hanbok fabric transformed by artists’ hands. Participants can create works that reinterpret the traditional beauty of Hanbok in a modern way, such as pleated Hanbok mood lamps, Hanbok lattice phone stands, Hanbok diffusers, and Hanbok fabric talisman pollock.
The experience runs every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The participation fee is 5,000 KRW per item, and participants can join on a first-come, first-served basis at the site. Applications can be made at the kiosk located at the Seonbi Sesang General Information Center.
In particular, a special exhibition space utilizing the Obangsaek colors of Hanbok has been prepared, allowing visitors to have a unique time learning about the past and present alongside the experience.
A representative from the Yeongju Cultural Tourism Foundation Seonbi Sesang stated, “This program will be a meaningful cultural experience that modernly reinterprets the value of traditional Hanbok while also considering the environment,” adding, “We hope many people participate and discover the beauty of our Hanbok anew.”
