iToxy (CEO Jeon Bong-gyu) announced on the 5th that it has signed a general distribution supply contract with Kailumen for the face-adherent Micro-LED mask 'Kailumen.' Through this contract, iToxy secured general distribution rights and plans to target both domestic and global beauty device markets.
The Kailumen Micro-LED mask is the first face-adherent surface-emitting Micro-LED mask developed in Korea by Pronix, a faculty startup company from KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology). Amorepacific Group invested in Pronix, and its beauty tech subsidiary Pacific Tech secured an exclusive contract, officially launching the product under the 'Kailumen' brand on November 5.
According to data released by KAIST researchers on the 29th of last month, existing LED mask products have limitations due to their rigid structure and point-emission method, which prevent close skin adhesion and cause light loss, resulting in uneven delivery of therapeutic light to the dermis.
However, the research team developed a Micro-LED mask that applies a three-dimensional origami structure on a flexible substrate, allowing it to adhere closely to the contours and protruding areas of the face. This enables uniform light delivery up to 1.5mm deep into the dermis, stimulating mitochondria within the dermis and promoting the synthesis of collagen and elastic fibers.
As a result, excellent improvement effects were confirmed across eight skin aging indicators, including skin elasticity, wrinkles, sagging, and pores. In particular, a clinical trial conducted at a university hospital with 33 test subjects showed a 340% improvement in dermal skin elasticity compared to existing LED masks.
The face-adherent surface-emitting Micro-LED mask ‘Kailumen’ minimizes light loss with 3,770 Micro-LEDs that flexibly adhere to the skin, delivering light evenly deep into the skin to enhance improvement effects. Additionally, it is designed to maintain an optimal temperature on the skin, providing a safe home care skin management experience without the risk of low-temperature burns, significantly differentiating it from existing products. The achievements of the KAIST research team were also recognized for their outstanding efficacy by being published in the prestigious German international journal Advanced Materials.
The global beauty device market is projected to reach 54 trillion KRW in 2024, and the domestic market has grown approximately 20-fold from around 80 billion KRW in 2013 to 1.6 trillion KRW in 2022. Currently, the consumer base for home beauty devices is expanding to include people in their 20s and 30s, and high-functionality devices such as LED and high-frequency massagers are gaining great popularity among general consumers, indicating continuous growth in the future.
An iToxy official stated, “This contract is an important business that concentrates iToxy’s global business know-how and is seen as a crucial turning point to enter and expand in the rapidly growing home beauty device market. The face-adherent surface-emitting Micro-LED mask is an innovative technology verified by Korea’s top institutions, maximizing skin improvement effects and providing the best beauty solution that guarantees definite results and convenience to global consumers seeking easy skin care.”
They added, “Through the exclusive partnership for this innovative technology-based product, we aim to achieve remarkable results in major global markets within two years.”
