This appointment ceremony was held following the business agreement between the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the Korea Convenience Store Industry Association, with the voluntary participation of store owners interested in youth issues such as discovering isolated or reclusive youth.

The ‘1388 Youth Support Group’ supports various services through the voluntary participation of private resources such as pharmacies, hospitals, PC rooms, convenience stores, and profit-making companies to early detect youth in crisis and support youth exposed to danger.

Through the appointment of the support group, it is expected that the function of protecting youth in crisis within the local community will be strengthened by establishing a support system that can quickly detect youth in dangerous environments and provide timely assistance.

A convenience store owner appointed to the support group stated, “While operating the convenience store, I have seen many youth who need help but do not know where to contact. I intend to fulfill my role as part of the 1388 Youth Support Group to ensure that youth in crisis can receive safe services.”

Center Director Kwon Hyun-sook said, “By appointing convenience stores, which youth frequently use and operate 24 hours, as the 1388 Youth Support Group, we hope to early detect youth in psychological crisis situations such as reclusion, isolation, and runaway, and provide an opportunity for youth in crisis to grow healthily.”

Meanwhile, the Goyang City Youth Counseling and Welfare Center is a youth counseling specialized institution established based on Article 29 of the Youth Welfare Support Act. It resolves concerns and conflicts during adolescence such as mental health, learning, and career issues, plants dreams and hopes through counseling activities, and builds and operates a youth safety net to provide customized services to youth in crisis.
