According to global research firm IDC on the 5th, Samsung Electronics maintained its second place in the tablet market with a 17.9% market share in the third quarter of this year.

The increase in sales was largely driven by the launch of the premium tablets Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra and Plus equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) in the third quarter, and the mid-range Galaxy A9 also showed strong sales performance worldwide.

During the same period, Apple maintained first place with a 31.7% market share, shipping 12.6 million units in the third quarter. Apple's sales increased by 1.4% compared to the same period last year. IDC explained that the back-to-school season contributed to the increased sales of the iPad Air. However, IDC analyzed that the new iPhone Pro showed underwhelming performance in emerging markets due to its high price.

Amazon, which ranked third, grew by 113.3% year-on-year and re-entered the top five. Amazon added AI features to its Fire HD 8 model. Huawei maintained fourth place with a 44.1% increase in sales during the same period. Lenovo dropped to fifth place in ranking but saw a 14.7% increase in revenue compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, global tablet shipments in the third quarter of this year recorded 39.6 million units, a 20.4% increase compared to the same period last year.
