Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) will participate in the ‘2024 Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC)’ held in Barcelona, Spain from the 5th to the 7th of this month to promote its smart city policies worldwide.
The SCEWC, held at Fira Barcelona Exhibition Center in Spain, is the world's largest smart city exhibition, with participation from 130 countries and over 850 cities annually. Focusing on seven areas including energy and environment, governance, infrastructure, and architecture, city officials, businesspeople, and experts from around the world gather to discuss the future of smart cities.
Following Gangnam-gu’s selection as the Best City in Safety & Recovery at last year’s SCEWC ‘World Smart City Awards (WSCA),’ the district was invited to the official congress this year.
The congress is a platform for city leaders and experts from around the world to share insights on smart cities through presentations and discussions. At the keynote speech scheduled for 11 a.m. local time on the 6th, Deputy Mayor Jeong Heon-jae will introduce ‘Gangnam, a People-Centered Sustainable Smart City.’
Additionally, Gangnam-gu will establish the Gangnam Pavilion under the theme ‘Gangnam Embraces Digital’ within the Seoul Pavilion, which is organized together with the Seoul Digital Foundation, Dongdaemun-gu, and Seocho-gu. Four companies located in Gangnam-gu or collaborating on demonstration projects with the district will participate.
They will showcase various digital technologies including Digital Nutrition’s app-based auditory sound therapy technology for health improvement, Volt Creation’s advanced dry etching technology in the micro-etching field, KL Cube’s sign language translation service for the hearing impaired, and Parkingo’s AI-based integrated parking control and electric vehicle charging zone analysis solutions.
District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong stated, “It is very meaningful to be invited as a Best City awardee last year and to introduce Gangnam-gu’s smart city policies to the world. We will continue to engage with countries worldwide, actively adopt innovative cases, improve the quality of life for our residents, and strengthen global competitiveness.”
