Hwangdo Port in Anmyeondo, Taean, Chungnam, renowned for its abundant marine resources, has completed the 'Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project' and opened a new future as the 'Golden Island.'
On the 4th, Taean County announced that it held a completion ceremony for the 'Hwangdo Port Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project' at Hwangdo Port in Hwangdori, Anmyeoneup, with over 100 attendees including County Mayor Ko Gaero, provincial and county council members, heads of local organizations and institutions, and residents.
The name Hwangdo was given because the barren land transformed into a fertile golden island. It is widely known as the venue for the 'Bunggi Pungeoje' festival, a famous local event visited annually by photographers and tourists, and is also famous as a production site for high-quality clams.
It was selected for the Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in 2021 and has now been completed after three years.
With this, Hwangdo Port has become the fifth site in Taean to complete the Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project, following Gaeuido North Port (August 2021), Gagyeongju Port (December 2021), Baeksajang Port (April 2024), and Daeyado Port (June 2024).
The Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project is a regionally focused living social overhead capital (SOC) project promoted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries since 2019 to lead innovative growth in fishing villages, with 70% of the funding provided by the national government upon selection.
In Taean County, a total of 10 sites, including Hwangdo Port, were selected as project locations, securing a total project budget of approximately 75.1 billion won, with the Hwangdo Port project alone receiving about 6.9 billion won, including 4.831 billion won in national funding.
The county signed a construction consignment contract with the Seosan Taean branch of Korea Rural Community Corporation in March 2022 and completed the design in January last year.
Since then, starting with civil engineering work in July last year, the county has improved electrical and communication facilities, constructed the 'Hwangdo Market,' and established a clam processing facility, all aimed at enhancing the quality of life for local fishermen.
Additionally, efforts were made to address residents' inconveniences and enhance competitiveness through various projects such as reinforcing the breakwater, extending the fishery access road, constructing a boat landing, repairing the port access road, installing information signs, and strengthening resident capacity.
The county is determined to ensure the smooth progress of the remaining five Fishing Village New Deal 300 project sites and to drive regional development.
Ko Gaero, County Mayor, said, "I expect that Hwangdo, the 'Golden Island' and a treasure trove of marine resources, will open a new future for fishing villages by completing this Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project. I thank everyone who contributed to the successful completion of the project, and we will do our best to ensure the remaining projects are completed without any setbacks."
