The Chosun University Foundation (Chairman Kim Yi-su) has completed the appointment of one vacant director.
According to Chosun University on the 4th, at the board meeting held that day, attorney Jeong Chae-ung was appointed as the successor to the late director Kim Mu-young, who is currently vacant. The term of office is until June 30, 2026.
Attorney Jeong graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in Economics and passed the 38th Judicial Examination. He is currently practicing as a lawyer and has been actively involved in the local community, serving as co-representative of Participation Autonomy 21, director of the May 18 Memorial Foundation, public interest commissioner of the Jeonnam Regional Labor Relations Commission, and the 4th and 5th head of the Gwangju Jeonnam branch of the Lawyers for a Democratic Society.
The foundation's board requested a recommendation from the Mayor of Gwangju in August to introduce a public interest director system, but Mayor Kang Ki-jung did not make a recommendation, citing the lack of legal basis in the Private School Act, the foundation's articles of incorporation, and other related laws.
Accordingly, the board decided that since many discussions, including amendments to related laws, are necessary to introduce the public interest director system, they would appoint a successor director to stabilize the board first and then discuss the public interest director system in the next board composition.
